Recently, the Columbia Journalism Review was kind enough to ask what had become of me. Here's my answer:

Tish, thanks for referencing this blog in your piece. I had bought the print mag (an excellent purchase ...), and noticed your name immediately and made your piece the first I read there. This is a good blog. Very little repetitive BS. Your subjects are curatiorial, hence can slide into op-ed-dy areas, but these days what I read in referenced media are almost all torch or troll style. Yours are neither. They advance the discourse. However, I wonder if there are advantages to torch and troll op-eds that cause that style of copy to dominate what editors select for their pages. Best wishes.

Tish, thank you so much for this piece (and thanks to my friend to sharing the link on Twitter). I graduated from journalism school and went into advertising, got laid off, and became a freelance writer/editor specializing in educational publishing. I have a seven-year-old and I work from home. Many late nights and long weekends have been spent barreling towards deadlines in exchange for meager pay and I wonder if I'll ever have the energy to write for myself again. Thanks for giving me a light at the end of the tunnel. I really needed that today.

Great read. Love the line about the guy who lost the coin toss.
